Challenge
Visually represent New York City’s vision and ambition as a Candidate City for the 2012 Olympic Games. The identity needed to clearly and inclusively communicate both Olympic and Paralympic sports, work across formal bid documentation and public-facing materials, and reflect the energy, diversity, and global stature of New York City on an international stage.
Solution
Working in collaboration with Two Twelve and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, I designed a comprehensive set of pictograms for New York City’s Olympic bid. The illustrations were featured prominently throughout the three-volume Bid Book, representing both Olympic and Paralympic events with clarity and consistency. The system extended beyond official documentation into public promotional touchpoints—including the MTA Metrocard—helping bring the bid to life for New Yorkers while reinforcing a cohesive, world-class visual language for the city’s Olympic aspirations.
