Safety should come standard
ADAS Loop - Launch Event
Consumer Reports
Challenge
As advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) became increasingly common, Consumer Reports needed a safe, controlled way to rigorously evaluate how these technologies perform in real-world driving conditions. The challenge was to launch a testing environment that accurately mirrors U.S. public roadways, enables comprehensive assessment of complex ADAS features, and clearly communicates CR’s leadership in automotive safety to both policymakers and the public.
Solution
CR built a $1 million, 1.5-mile ADAS test loop at its Auto Test Center, engineered to replicate real roadway conditions with curves, hills, split lanes, merges, and exit ramps. This purpose-built environment enables CR to safely and consistently test systems, such as lane centering assistance, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control, under realistic scenarios. To debut the loop, CR hosted a launch event where officials experienced the technology firsthand in equipped vehicles. The initiative garnered national recognition, including Fast Company naming Consumer Reports one of the Most Innovative Companies of 2024.
